Spearfish Canyon Country Club first opened for play in 1920.
Spearfish Canyon Country Club's 3138 yard front nine features a traditional layout tree lined throughout. The front nine relies heavily on its very small push-up greens to provide difficulty for scoring. The front nine is also highlighted by some moderate to severe elevation changes which greatly add to the challenge. This original nine built in 1920 is nestled in natural terrain surrounded by a thick forest of ponderosa pine, oak, and Black Hills spruce trees.
In 1988, Spearfish Canyon Country Club became an 18 hole golf course. Unlike the original nine, the back nine employs a modern design intertwined with an oak-laden creek bed which enhances natural definition. The 3529 yard links-style layout features rolling hills and large greens, producing equal but different challenges from that of the original nine.
The golf course at Spearfish Canyon Country Club plays to a par-71 and 6,667 yards. The course rating is 71.0 and it has a slope rating of 121.
